EYES WIDE SHUT

The taste of fine sand in your mouth might mean you´re lost in a desert
Or you just carved a statue out of sandstone
If you dare to seek beyond whats in front of your feet
Who knows what sight you´ll meet
That small piece of ground you still call your own, alone
Against the crushing waves of these days
The storm is coming leaving none unscathed
Nought untouched, its all they care to say
And I pray that when at last the sun breaks out again
We may come out of it not harmed but changed
Watching your kids play you cannot help wondering
What world will they see tomorrow
They´re sniffing the future like young dogs, eager and happy
“When will it come? What will it bring? Bet it´s good, yeah!”
I´m painting the still life of this moment on the inside of my eyelids
With eyes wide shut!
The storm is coming leaving none unscathed
Nought untouched, its all they care to say
And I pray that when at last the sun breaks out again
We may come out of it not harmed but changed
Don´t misread the signs
Cos bad news sells The Times
Some just shut their eyes
But you´d better… you´d better keep them open wide… wide!
